The U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security is seeking comment to update its best practices list for handling transit, transshipped or re-exported items subject to the Export Administration Regulations
The Department of Commerce agency is aiming to prevent diversion of
dual-use technologies from legitimate supply chains to users that pose a
security risk to the United States. Comments from industry will help
BIS update a list of best practices that it published on its Web site in
2003.
According to its notice in Wednesday's Federal Register, BIS wants to
strengthen relationships with companies that transship dual-use items.
"BIS recognizes the importance of soliciting input from industry to
define a set of best practices tailored to the particular activities and
circumstances of transshipment trade," the notice said.
