Russia imported 3.64 million metric tons of steel in 2009, 30.8% less than in 2008, the federal customs service reported Monday. The steel imported in 2009 was worth $3.31 billion compared with $6.37 billion the previous year.
The imports of steel from countries outside the Commonwealth of
Independent States in 2009 were 1.24 million tons worth $1.65 billion.
Russia also imported in 2009 583,600 tons of steel pipes, a fall of
38.5% compared with 2008. The imported pipes were worth $918 million
compared with $ 1.79 billion a year earlier.
Steel pipe exports from countries outside the CIS in 2009 were 184,400 tons worth $563.4 million.
