piracy_thumb.jpgThe Danish Shipowners' Association has been in dialogue with a number of East African countries about a new plan, using Danish maritime knowhow to build at fleet of African coast guard patrol ships, to fight off Somali pirates. "We see that attacks are happening a long way from the coast, and the pirates cannot do that without their mother ships. Therefore it is important with patrol ships, which can survey the seas, block the pirates from coming out from or in to the coast and report the mother ships' positions", executive vice president in the Danish Shipowners' Association, Jan Fritz Hansen says.
The project, worth several hundreds of millions, may be build at Danish yards, financed with the help of money from UN's development aid.
The president of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete has visited Copenhagen to discuss the plans with the Danish promoters
