tanker_thumb.gifLeading Norwegian pump manufacturer Frank Mohn has moved into shipowning by purchasing three tankers on a lease back basis. The Knutsen shuttle tankers 'Karen Knutsen' (153,616 dwt/99), 'Sallie Knutsen' (154,390 dwt/99) and 'Windsor Knutsen' (162,258 dwt/07) changed hands in a $230 mill deal, according to BRL Shipping Consultants.
The trio will be bareboat chartered back to Knutsen.
Some reports have indicated that the 'Gerd Knutsen' (146,273 dwt/96) was offered as a spare vessel, or as a replacement for one of the original three, or even as a possible fourth purchase, BRL said.
Elsewhere, BRL reported that Carl Buttner has purchased two newbuildings from Turkey.
The two 15,300 dwt chemical tankers were building at the TVK Shipyard for local ownership when they were snapped up for $23 mill each by the Bremen-based tanker owner.
They are both due for delivery this year.
