jjjjjjjjj_thumb.jpgAccording to the foreign trade statistics preliminary for December 2008 announced by the Japanese ministry of finance on January 22nd 2009 iron ore imports into the country in the period were 10.968 million tonnes, down 6.7% from the previous corresponding month. Figures showed that imports from January to December of 2008 totaled 140.414 million tonnes, an increase of 1.1% from the previous year. The imports in December 2008 amounted to JPY 117.474 billion, and unit import prices for the month averaged JPY 10,711 per tonne, which was 37.3% higher than for the previous corresponding month. Twelve month imports in 2008 amounted to JPY 1,342.147 billion, with average unit price of JPY 9,558 per tonne, which was 27.4% higher than in the previous year.
