An intensive collaboration on engineering training, including acoustics and fluid dynamics, was agreed between classification society Germanischer Lloyd and China's premier Harbin Engineering University. The cooperation agreement was signed in a formal ceremony at MARINTEC exhibition today. ''As an innovation driven classification society, we are very honored to support a renowned institution such as the Harbin Engineering University'', said Dr. Hermann J. Klein, Member of the Executive Board of Germanischer Lloyd.The two partners will jointly work on science and industry projects and organize an exchange of lecturers and trainers. Germanischer Lloyd's GL Academy will provide assistance selecting diploma theses and dissertations. Harbin Engineering University will be host to colloquiums, workshops and conferences with GL participation. The classification society also donates eight scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students with excellent academic credentials in shipbuilding and ocean engineering. ''We are interested to offer university graduates the opportunity to hear from naval architects and marine engineers about real life practical questions'', Dr. Klein underlined the importance of the scientific and practical exchange.Harbin Engineering University (HEU) is located in Harbin in North China. It is now the key engineering university in China, encompassing engineering science and management as well as support programs on humanities and social sciences.
