svitzer.jpgSvitzer Marine Ltd. has advised that effective from May 19, the bunker surcharge per tug at Forth Ports will increase to 5% of towage charges as per the 2008 tariff. Edinburgh-based Forth Ports operates six east coast ports in Scotland including Grangemouth, Scotland's largest container port, Burntisland, Methil, Rosyth, Leith and Dundee. The London-listed operator also runs the English port of Tilbury located on the Thames forming part of the Port of London.Meanwhile, Sullom Voe Harbour has introduced a bunker surcharge for towage services, effective immediately.
The port in Shetland, Scotland, attributed the surcharge to “increased bunker costs”.
According to the GAC news service, the surcharge will be monitored and reviewed each month and will be amended depending on fuel prices.
The initial charge will be $331 (£170) per tug movement for normal operations, and $97 (£50) per hour where an hourly rate applies, reported GAC.
